Statistical Thinking

The term "Statistical Thinking" came in discussions with the evolution of computational power. Earlier it was a common assumption that the use of available statistical power gets limited by the horizon of computation.

This myth was broken after a lot more computational capability was achieved. It became clear that lack of statistical thinking is the main obstacle in the using statistics to its full potential. In fact, it was realized that statistical thinking provides a sound philosophical framework for using statistical methods in correct prospective.

Software needed!

Whether any software is based on Statistical Thinking?

Software needed!

Statistical Thinking is not a special statistical method. It is rather an approach. One can use same software for this purpose. For teaching Statistical Thinking some software like ViSta may be useful which provide interactive platform to visualize data. It is free software.

Need for doing data analysis and teaching data analysis are different in some aspect. It not necessary that a statistical software may be efficient at both front.

Why Statistical Thinking?

I could not understand why concept of ‘Statistical Thinking’ getting so much place for discussion currently? Whether statistician like R. A. Fisher was not using `Statistical Thinking’?

Why Statistical Thinking?

Statistical Thinking mainly provides a discipline for integrating  context area (from which data gathered) and statistical methods with more emphasis on analyzing variation in data. One can use all these without labeling his work as Statistical Thinking in same way as one can take sample from prepared food to know whether food is cooked properly, without labeling his work as `sampling’. Once some one label any activity as sampling then people may ask many questions like how sample size has been determined? What is level of sampling fluctuation in estimates etc. In this line some thoughts used by users of statistics is labeled as Statistical Thinking so that one can know background of communication properly
